It-tieni edizzjoni tal-festival hijaskedata li tittella’ il-Ħamis 4, il-Ġimgħa 5 u s-Sibt 7 ta’ Ġunju 2026 . It-tħejjijiet għall-produzzjonijiet jibdew fi Spazju Kreattiv nhar it-Tnejn 1 ta’ Ġunju 2026. Matul il-festival se jittellgħu numru ta’ produzzjonijiet fi mkejjen differenti bħat-teatru u l-istudios ġewwa Spazju Kreattiv, u anka fi mkejjen miftuħa.

Skeċċ is the National  Short Play Festival dedicated to showcasing innovative voices and diverse practices in theatre. The 2nd edition of the Festival is scheduled on Thursday 4th, Friday 5th and Saturday 6th June 2026, with setups commencing on Monday 1st of June 2026. A number of productions will be staged across various venues at Spazju Kreattiv, including theatre, studios and outdoor areas.

 

Submission Guidelines

Eligibility

– Open to playwrights with all levels of experience;

– Open to creative teams/collectives of all levels of experience;

– Submissions must be original works that have yet to be produced.

Duration

– Each play must have a runtime of 10 to 20 minutes;

– Scripts should be at most 10-15 pages in standard play format.

Language

– Scripts may be submitted in either Maltese or English.

Theme

– There is no specific theme; however, works exploring contemporary issues, cultural diversity, and innovative storytelling are encouraged.

Requirements

– Submissions must be in PDF format;

– A brief synopsis of a maximum of 150 words should be submitted with the script;

Number of Submissions

– Each applicant can submit up to a maximum of 3 scripts; 

– Each submission of a script needs to be sent through a separate application form.

How to Submit

– Fill in the online submission form. (to be linked to online form created via jot form)*

– Any incomplete forms or applications with missing uploads will not be considered;

– Submission will only be accepted through this online format;

– Any forms received after the established deadline will not be considered;

– A receipt acknowledgement will be sent to confirm the submission.

 

Terms and Conditions

Production Guidelines

– Cast size should be limited and reflective of the nature of the initiative. Participants are encouraged to keep in mind the venues available at Spazju Kreattiv and their respective sizes when creating the work;

– All productions must be adaptable to different working spaces at Spazju Kreattiv;

– To ensure adaptability, the technical requirements should be minimal;

– The final venue designation will be the Festival artistic team’s prerogative.

– Playwrights must be available for rehearsals during the weeks leading up to the Festival;

– Participation in promotional activities may be required;

– Spazju Kreattiv will not commit to providing rehearsal spaces to the selected productions in the Festival. The venues will only be available for rehearsals during production week ie. from Monday 1st June 2026 onwards.

 

Performances

– Each production will perform multiple times on each day of the Festival (Thursday 4th June, Friday 5th June and Saturday 6th June 2026). Performance times will be communicated to each production in due course but the Festival will run between 7 pm and 11 pm on each of the days;

– Spazju Kreattiv will provide technical equipment. Technical riders will be discussed individually with each production. The nature of the Festival necessitates the selected production to work with a minimal technical setup;

– Any props, costumes, makeup, and sets are the responsibility of each production. A minimal approach is recommended on this front as well.

 

Performance Rights

– By submitting to the Festival, playwrights grant Spazju Kreattiv the right to produce the play as part of the Festival;

– Playwrights retain all other creative rights pertaining to their work;

– An agreement will be signed between one legal representative of the production and Spazju Kreattiv.

 

Financial Support

– Each selected production will receive a contribution of €2,000 (incl. VAT), provided by Spazju Kreattiv, which will be paid against a fiscal invoice;

– The agreed sum is disbursed to the person signing the agreement with Spazju Kreattiv. The signatory is then responsible for effectively managing the allocated production budget;

– The signatory needs to have a valid VAT number;

– The contribution is to be used for the execution of the production and covering any artistic fees incurred in producing the work. Spazju Kreattiv may request copies of receipts to ensure the proper use of the allocated budget;

– Participants may seek other sources of funding along with the funds disbursed by Spazju Kreattiv.

 

Deadline

– All submissions must be received by Thursday, 16th October 2025 at noon;

– Applicants will be notified of the results via email;

– Feedback will be provided on request;

– The selected applicants must confirm their participation within a week of receiving the email.
